Youth in Trades for Employers

Youth in Trades trains young adults, who are out of school and out of work, for employment and careers in culinary and construction trades.

What Employers can gain from partnering with Youth in Trades

  • Access to trained youth candidates for positions within the culinary and construction industries at no cost to the employer
  • Job development support and coaching to promote learning and increase productivity
  • 6-week, paid work placement program to support our youth and your business needs

Youth in our Culinary stream receive hands on practical training including:

  1. Certifications in: Food Handlers, Workers’ Health & Safety Awareness, and WHMIS 
  2. Tools & equipment fundamentals, terminologies & techniques, knife skills development 
  3. Mise en place, basic butchery, preparation of stock, sauces, vinaigrettes, and fresh pasta 
  4. Braising, breading, and prepared a variety of sides, meat, and vegetable dishes 
  5. Inventory management (FIFO), food safety and storage 
  6. Cleaning, sanitation and maintenance of kitchen equipment and food production spaces  

Youth in our Construction stream receive hands on practical training including:

  1. Certifications in: Working at Heights, Health and Safety & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and WHMISÌý
  2. Fractions, measurements, diagram & blueprint readingÌý
  3. Trim and basic carpentryÌý
  4. Flooring and flooring componentsÌý
  5. Residential house framingÌý
  6. Roofing and componentsÌý
  7. ¶Ù°ù²â·É²¹±ô±ôÌý
  8. ±Ê²¹¾±²Ô³Ù¾±²Ô²µÌý
  9. ±Ê±ô³Ü³¾²ú¾±²Ô²µÌý
  10. Basic ElectricalÌý
Participants will also be provided with a construction tool kit that includes personal protective equipment including a hard hat, safety boots, gloves, goggles, and some basic job specific tools.ÌýÌý
